PROSMOKE Vol. 1 Lesson FCPX Plugin - Installation

Installation

Upon purchasing PROSMOKE you will receive 5 zip folders of smoke composite footage. You will also receive an installer file for the PROSMOKE Compositing Tool.

The tool will load directly into the Final Cut Pro X effects library.

If you plan on using the particle footage often, you can import the files into an FCPX event for quick access. Or you can simply store them on an external drive and drag one into the timeline whenever you need it.

PROSMOKE Vol. 1 Lesson FCPX Plugin - Step 1 - Preparing the Timeline

Step 1 - Preparing the Timeline

Let's begin by selecting a clip in the FCPX media library and dragging it to the timeline.

Now, scan through the PROSMOKE composite footage folders.

The smoke in the video files vary in size, speed and focus, so you can layer them to create more depth in your scene. For this example, we will use 2 different sized smoke composites.

Drag the smoke footage above your clip on the Final Cut Pro X timeline. Then, use the blade tool to cut the composites to the length of the clip.

Select the smoke layer in the timeline. Then, go to the “Video” tab of the FCPX Inspector window. Scroll down until you come across the blend mode drop down menu. Change the blend mode to “Add.”

Repeat this process with the other composite layer.

PROSMOKE Vol. 1 Lesson FCPX Plugin - Step 2 - Blending the Smoke

Step 2 - Blending the Smoke

Now, it’s time to blend and incorporate the footage into our environment.

Find the PROSMOKE Compositing tool located in the FCPX effects library. Drag and drop the effect on to each of the ProSmoke clips.

Select a PROSMOKE layer in the timeline. Use the blur, scale, opacity and color controls to blend the smoke into the environment.

Repeat this process with the other composite layer.

PROSMOKE Vol. 1 Lesson FCPX Plugin - Final Touches

Final Touches

Now for some Final Touches.

To help composite the steam seamlessly into the scene….. Compound your clip with all of the PROSMOKE composites used in the scene.

Select everything you stacked in the timeline, then hold control and click on one of the clips. Now select New Compound Clip in the pop-up.

Next, Apply a color grade to the compound clip, it will make the steam feel like apart of the same environment. For this example, we will use a Pixel Film Studios “PROHUE” filter.
