STEP 1 - Preparing The Timeline
Let’s begin by locating ProFrag in the FCPX Generators Library. Browse through the variety of ProFrag Presets. For this example we will be using the Shatter 3 generator. Click and Drag the generator to the timeline. Then select the generator and go to the inspector window.
STEP 2 - Effect Controls
Let’s start by filling the drop zone. Select the drop zone icon. Go to the FCPX Library and choose your media. Then click the apply clip button in the bottom right conner of the viewer window. After filling the drop zone go on to the Shatter Amount slider. Adjusting this slider will determine how much your media will shatter. You will need to keyframe the shatter amount slider to create an animated shatter effect. Go down to the FCPX timeline and move the playhead to the beginning of your generator preset. Then set the shatter amount slider to 0 and select the keyframe icon. After selecting the keyframe icon go back down to your timeline and drag the playhead to where Next, Go up to the inspector window and set the shatter amount slider to an amount you are comfortable with. If you want the shatter to be slower or faster you can adjust the keyframes by right clicking on the generator and selecting Show Video Animation. Once you have the shatter amount set you can move on to adjusting the camera movement. The camera movement slider will control the tilt your media. For example moving the slider to the right will tilt your media backwards and moving the slider left will bring your media upright. Underneath the Camera Movement slider are your focus controls. Adjusting the the depth of focus blur amount will control the maximum amount of blur applied to out-of-focus objects. The Focus offset slider will set the distance from the camera where objects are in perfect focus. After adjusting those two sliders you can then adjust the near focus and far focus sliders.
Lastly you can select a background option. Choose to insert media in the second drop zone or simply change the color of your background.
