Animation Tools with ProKeyframe in Final Cut Pro X
ProKeyframe allows drop zone contents (pictures, video, text) to animated to the speed and orientation of a path drawn by any video editor. Simply toggle on the “Time-Based” path checkbox to trigger real-time animation functions. Alternatively, uncheck this box to animate contents at a constant speed.
ProKeyframe’s “Align Angle” feature automatically rotates drop zone contents to match the angle of the path. Animating objects that move along paths such as cars, animals, or arrows has never been easier. Simply insert media into the drop zone and toggle the checkbox.
Animate to the Beat
With ProKeyframe, animating media to the beat of music or sound effects is an absolute breeze. First, playback a song several times to get into rythmn. Next, create a path by clicking and dragging the mouse into different directions to the beat of the music & toggle on time-based path. ProKeyframe will do the rest.
ProKeyframe’s time-based functionality, angle alignment options, and path smoothness control allow Final Cut Pro X users to get creative. Easily animate automobiles or airplanes on a map, create “draw-on” effects, and even move objects to the beat of music. The options are endless with ProKeyframe.

Learn how to use a real - time animation tool in FCPX with the ProKeyframe Lesson.
STEP 1 - Preparing The Timeline
Let’s begin by locating ProKeyFrame in the Generators library. Click and Drag the generator to the timeline. Select the ProKeyFrame generator, Then go to the inspector window.
STEP 2 - Instructions & Guide Controls
Once your Timeline is set up you will notice the instructions to ProKeyFrame in the Viewer window. You can turn the instructions off by simply unchecking the Instructions box.
Now lets move on to the guide controls. First go to the viewer window. Click, Hold and drag your keyframe path. The white line is the path your image will follow, The white rectangle is a place holder for the footage you decide to use.
After you have your Keyframe path set you can make it invisible by unchecking the guides check box. Next is the Guide Color option where you can change the color of the line to make it easier to follow on different types of media. The thickness slider makes the guide line thicker or thinner.
STEP 3 - Animation Controls
Once you have the guide controls set you can move onto the Animation Controls section. When checked the time based path will keep your image steady and it will also follow your keyframe path exactly.
With the Time Based Path unchecked your image will be free flowing. The image will follow your keyframe but will not stay directly on the preview path line. Next is the Align Angle which keeps the image stationary and in the same position through out the keyframe path.
Unchecking the Align Angle will make the image twist and turn with the keyframe path. Now start adjusting the path smoothness slider. Moving the path smoothness slider to the right will make your keyframe path rounded which in turn will make your images movement precise and steady.
By moving the slider to the left will make your path edgy. Your image will then have an uneven movement loosely following the keyframe path.
STEP 4 - Drop Zone Controls
Now that your path is set you can now add your footage in the drop zone section. Click the drop zone icon in the inspector window, Then select your media from the FCPX library. Once selected click the apply button located in the bottom right corner of the viewer window, After you have your media in the drop zone you can adjust the scale and angle of it.
