Learn how to take your logo cutouts to the next level with the ProLogo Lesson from Pixel Film Studios.
Step 1 - Preparing the Timeline
Let’s begin by selecting our logo cutout in the FCP media library and dragging it to the timeline.
Make sure that the negative space in your logo is cutout and that you saved your logo on top of a 1920 by 1080 pixel transparent png background.
Once, you have the media in the timeline, go to the FCP titles library to locate the ProLogo presets.
Scan through the different color and texture types and select the one that best matches the look you want. Then, drag the title layer above your footage on the Final Cut Pro timeline and make it the same length as the logo.
Step 2 - Filling the Drop Zone
Once we have our ProLogo layer setup, it’s time to fill the drop zone.
Select the title layer in the timeline and go to the FCP Inspector window. Click the Drop Zone icon in the Inspector window.
Then select the logo layer in the timeline.
Click the blue "Apply Clip" button in the FCP Viewer window.
Once you are done filling the drop zone, you can delete the logo image from the timeline.
Step 3 - Customizing the Color
Now that we have our drop zone filled, it’s time to customize the color of our logo.
Select the title layer in the timeline and go to the Inspector window. Then, use the Color gradient bar to set color of the logo.
Select each box below the bar to change the color of the gradient. If you would like to add more colors to your gradient, double click on the bar to add more boxes.
Next, use the Map Channel drop down menu to choose which channel you would like to colorize.
Finally, use the Colorize Intensity slider to adjust the strength of the gradient.
If you turn the intensity down, the secondary color will show through which you can adjust using the Secondary color picker.
Step 4 - Customizing the Style
Now that we have our logo the color the way we want it, it’s time to customize the style and extrude settings.
Go to the Style Options section of the Inspector window.
Use the Shine checkbox to add a subtle glow. The distortion checkbox can help map the texture to the surface of your logo.
Use the Texture Source drop down menu to choose the Texture type. Then, Adjust the glow settings to add an outer or inner glow.
Next use the Alpha and Luma Indent settings, to give the darks and lights of the texture even more depth.
Now, move on to the 3D Options section. Use the extrude slider to adjust the depth of your logo. Then, use the gradient bar to set the color of the sides of your logo.
Next, use the glow sliders to add a subtle glow to the sides of your logo.
Step 5 - Reflection and Shadow
Now, it’s time to customize the Reflection and Shadow options.
Check the Reflection box in the Inspector window to activate the reflections. Then, use the source drop down menu to select a light source for the reflection.
Next, adjust the reflection scale and blur settings to your liking.
Then use the shadow scale and blur settings.
Step 6 - Animating the Logo
It’s time to set some keyframes on the position and rotation to animate it.
First, move the playhead to the front of the timeline and go to the Position and Rotation Controls sections of the FCP Inspector.
Then, adjust the camera settings to where you want them to start, and set keyframes on the parameters. Move the playhead to the end of the timeline, and adjust the values to where you want the animation to end.
Since we already placed keyframes on these parameters, FCP will automatically set keyframes for the end values.
