STEP 1 - Preparing The Timeline

Let’s begin by selecting our footage from the FCPX media library. Then locate ProPress in the FCPX Effects library. Browse through the variety of ProPress presets. For this example we will be using Pistachio preset. Click and drag the preset directly on top of your media. Then select your media and go to the inspector window.

STEP 2 - Effect Controls

Let’s begin by adjusting the sliders in the effect controls section. Start by adjusting the opacity, overlay mode and overall hue. The opacity will control how intense the print style will show up. Then choose from a variety of overlay modes. After selecting an overlay mode you can adjust the overall hue. Next we will adjust the saturation, value, threshold and smoothness. The Value slider sets the intensity of saturation adjustments. Underneath is the Threshold slider which will make the color in your media lighter or darker depending on the look you want. Adjusting the smoothness slider sets the smoothness of transition between the substituted colors. Once you have smoothness slider set move on down to adjust the Shadow Radius and shadow amount. After, Continue adjusting the glow inner radius and glow outer radius. Then go on to adjust the noise opacity. Next you can animate the noise by selecting the checkbox. Lastly choose a noise blend mode.

STEP 3 - Color Controls

In the color controls section you can adjust the Reds, Greens and Blues of your previous alterations made. Once you have adjusted the Reds, Greens move on to adjusting the darks and whites.

Final Touches

Now for some final touches. ProPress also comes with paper effects that you can put onto your footage. For this example we will be using the folds preset. Click and drag the effect directly onto your footage. Then go to the inspector window. Begin by adjusting the opacity of the effect. Next you can choose from a variety of paper folds and blend modes. Underneath you have the option of flipping the fold pattern by simply clicking the checkbox. After continue by adjusting the shadows, midtowns, and highlights. Lastly adjust the darks and whites sliders.
