ProSparkle Tutorial for Final Cut Pro

Learn how to create floating trails of sparkles and glitter with the ProSparkle Lesson.
Professional - Generated Composites for Final Cut Pro X

Step 1 - Preparing the Timeline

Let's begin by selecting a clip in the FCPX media library and dragging it to the timeline. Once, you have your footage in the timeline, go to the FCPX titles library to locate the ProSparkle presets. Scan through the sparkle types and select the one that best matches the look you want. Then, drag the adjustment layer above your footage on the Final Cut Pro X timeline and make it the same length as the clip.

Step 2 - Positioning the Sparkle

Now that our timeline is setup, let’s adjust the position and color of our sparkles. Select the title layer in the timeline. Click and drag the center on-screen control puck to position the point of emission. Click and drag the center on-screen control to position the swarm where you need it. Then use the arrow, hinge and arm controls to pivot the line along the x, y, and z axises. Finally, use the color pallets to adjust the colors of the lights. Depending on your version of Final Cut, you may need to double click the refresh button at the top of the Inspector to re-render these changes in the viewer window.

Step 3 - Customizing the Sparkle

Once you have the sparkles emitting the way you want it, it’s time to customize the look of the particles. Use the radius sliders to adjust the size of the particle glow. Then use the Streak and Flicker settings to make your particles glimmer and sparkle. Use the Spin controls to adjust how much you want the particles to rotate as they more. Use the Life Sliders to adjust how long you want them to live before disappearing. Then, use the Speed controls to adjust how fast you want the particles to use. Finally, use the Streak and Flicker settings to make your particles glimmer and sparkle.

Final Touches

Now for some Final Touches. Let’s give our particles a little weight by increasing the gravity amount. Next, let’s set a few keyframes on the position parameters to make the sparkles move. Move the playhead to the first frame of your clip. Then go the Inspector window. Change the position to the starting value and set a keyframe. Now move the playhead to the end of the clip and change the value of the parameter. Because this value is different than the previous frame … It will auto-keyframe in Final Cut Pro X.
