Installation

Upon purchasing ProBlue 5K you will receive multiple zip folders of composite footage. You will also receive an installer file for the ProBlue Compositing Tool. The tool will load directly into the Final Cut Pro effects library. If you plan on using the particle footage often, you can import the files into an FCP event for quick access. Or you can simply store them on an external drive and drag one into the timeline whenever you need it.

Step 1 - Preparing the Timeline

Let's begin by selecting a clip in the FCP media library and dragging it to the timeline. Now, scan through the ProBlue 5K composite footage folders. Drag the Flare footage above your clip on the Final Cut Pro timeline. Then, use the blade tool to cut the composites to the length of the clip. Select the Flare layer in the timeline. Then, go to the “Video” tab of the FCP Inspector window. Scroll down until you come across the blend mode drop down menu. Change the blend mode to “Add” or “Screen.” Since this is an HD project, FCP will compress the 5K clip to fit the canvas. If you want to zoom into a specific part of the clip you will want to change the spatial settings first. Go to the Inspector window. Scroll down until you find the Spatial Conform drop down menu. Change the Type from “Fit” to “None.” Now your footage will be in its actual 5K dimensions.

Step 2 - Customizing the Flare

Once you have your clip ready, it’s time to blend and incorporate the footage into our environment. Find the ProBlue HD tool located in the FCP effects library. Drag and drop the effect on to the ProBlue clip. Select the ProBlue layer in the timeline. Use the scale, opacity and color controls to blend the flare into the environment. Then, use the on-screen control puck to position the flare within the scene.
