ProFashion Tutorial for Final Cut Pro X

Learn how to create and customize your very own fashion color grades with the ProFashion Lesson.

STEP 1 - Preparing the Timeline

Let’s begin by selecting our footage from the FCPX media library. Then Locate ProFashion in the FCPX Effects library. Scan through the ProFashion presets and choose a style that works best for your project. For this example we will be using the ProFashion 9 preset. Click and drag the effect directly on top of your footage. Select your media and go to the Inspector Window.

STEP 2 - Effect Controls

Let’s start by adjusting the color grade slider. The Color grade slider controls the amount of the effect preset chosen. Next you can begin adjusting the wash amount, contrast, saturation and sharpen sliders.

Final Touches

Now for some Final Touches. Located in the FCPX Effects library is a Custom Vignette add on exclusively for ProFashion. Click and Drag the Custom Vignette directly on top of your media. Then go to the Inspector window. First begin by selecting a vignette color. Then start adjusting the size, falloff and Center of the vignette. You can also adjust these same sliders by using the on screen controls in the viewer window. Clicking and dragging the inside oval will adjust the size as well as the falloff By clicking and dragging the outside oval you can adjust the falloff individually. Click and drag the control puck to adjust the center of the vignette. After making those adjustments you can continue on to control the blur amount, darken, and saturation sliders.

Troubleshooting ProFashion

I am getting a Red Screen with a Yellow Exclamation Point, how is this fixed?

This usually occurs due to either an Installation error, or its just that your FCPX version is out of date. You can upgrade, its simple and usually free in the Apple App Store. If your operating system is out of date, that may need to be updated first, in order to update the other relying software.

What Version of FCPX does this require?

You will need to make sure your version of the software is updated to at least version 10.2.1, and this may require an OS update, which should be available for free in the App Store.
