Step 1 - Preparing the Timeline

Let's begin by selecting a clip or image in the FCPX media library and dragging it to the timeline. Once you have your media in place, go to the FCPX generators library to locate the ProBubble presets. Browser through the bubble shapes and select the one that best matches the look you want. Click and drag a one of the generators above your clip in the timeline and make it the same length. For this example we will use the Bounce Bubble 6.

Step 2 - Customizing the Bubble

Now that our timeline is setup, let’s setup the text and look of our bubble. Select the PROBUBBLE layer in the timeline. Go to the generator tab of the FCPX Inspector. Scroll down to the Text Control section and add your own quote. Then adjust the font, size, and color. If you need to move the text within the bubble, check the “Edit Mode” checkbox. This will allow you to select the text in the Viewer window. Next, go to the Style Controls to adjust the extrude and indent settings.

Step 3 - Adjusting the Position and Animation

Once you have your bubble looking the way you want it, let’s setup the position and animation. Use the on-screen control point to position the bubble. In the Animation Controls section, use the Intro drop down menu to choose how you want your bubble to reveal itself. You can scrub the timeline to preview each option. Then repeat this step with the Outro Animation.

Final Touches

Now for some Final Touches. If you want to separate the bubble from your image, you can add a drop shadow. Scroll down to the Shadow Controls section and check the “On” checkbox. Then adjust the color, angle and strength of the drop shadow.

Where do I find ProBubble?

Where are my Animations and Presets?

All of the presets within ProBubble are consolidated in order to save space. You'll have the selection of Bounce, Spin, and Think Bubbles within your Generators. Then within your inspector under the Intro and Outro dropdown controls you'll be able to choose between a variety of different animations to apply to your bubbles!
